Manipulation & Mobilisation
What is it?
Manipulation and mobilisation of joints (and other ‘hands-on’ treatments) may be performed by your physiotherapist to help restore the joints’ normal range of movement and relieve pain. Injuries and other joint conditions where the joints become stiff and painful often respond well to manipulation and mobilisation.
- Techniques include:
- Manipulation – high speed, vigorous techniques often used on the spinal joints.
- Mobilisation – gentle, graded pressure applied in the joint’s natural movement direction.
- Passive movements and stretching – of joints and soft tissues.
- Traction – a form of stretching commonly used for neck disorders and other joint problems.
Common treatment for:
- Arthritis
- Frozen shoulder
- Back pain
- Tennis Elbow
